Author's Note

These materials include various voices from those who had the courage and honesty to share what was true for them. The books contain a different point of view, honesty, and hope.

Kids contributed to the books for kids. Teachers gave input for the books for teachers. Inmates collaborated for the works intended for kids at risk.

The first 3 volumes consist of one-page, how-to lessons for being safe, self-aware and of service to others. Volume 4 is aobut self-care in order to care for others. This curriculum is the result of one teacher asking her many students three questions: What do you need? How can I help? What can we do to help others?

Following are a few sample lessons from the Self-Help Skills for Kids books.
